0 PLASTIC MINORCA

THE MOVEMENT
The 0 Plastic Menorca movement has the mission of raising awareness about the reduction and re-use of plastics, educating about the problem and concrete solutions; and promote sustainable tourism in Menorca as an example of success in the Mediterranean, involving people and organizations from both the island and from outside.

0 PLASTIC MENORCA EXPEDITION
From August 11 to 15, 2020, the 1st expedition by sea and by land was carried out, which included 30 volunteers from all over Spain .
+10,000 micro-plastics and 330 kg of plastic collected in coastal areas of the island of Menorca and in which workshops and training talks were held in the beaches of Menorca under the name of "Beach Talks" , in which experts from environmental organizations on the island shared their knowledge on specific topics such as micro-plastics, the origin of plastic, the impact of plastic on the environment, the re- use and bioplastics, etc.
The objective of the expedition is to educate and raise awareness among more people every day about this problem and the solutions that we can put into practice.
MILES OF PLASTIC PER IRIS
A project that invites secondary, baccalaureate, basic FP and Intermediate FP students (16-18 years old) residing in the Balearic Islands, whom we call 0 Plastic Warriors , to organize nature excursions with friends and family, with the mission to share ideas to reduce plastic pollution on their islands. There will be a collective goal of reaching 10,000 km traveled against plastic among all the participants of the islands until el April 30, 2022 .
CONTEST 1 MIN FOR YOUR ISLAND
Create a 1-minute video to win the battle against plastic, answering the question: What would you do to fight plastic pollution on your island?
Prize: The winners will be crew members of the Norwegian sailboat Toftevaag from Alnitak for one day (1st and 2nd ESO) and 10 days participating in marine conservation activities. There will be 6 winning teams of 2 people, 2 for each island.

1. Requirements: Secondary, baccalaureate, basic FP and Intermediate FP students residing in the Balearic Islands (up to 20 years old)

Save 390 l. of water bottled in plastic per year.
Reusable glass bottle with a capacity of 550 ml. It admits hot and cold drinks such as tea, infusions, coffee, chocolate, milk for children, water, juices, etc. Does not retain odors or flavors. A group of young people from the island told us about the concern regarding the increasing amount of plastic on the coast of Menorca, and we decided to act and involve our community of young volunteers, as well as other committed people and organizations on the island, in an activity to raise awareness and collect plastics.

Thanks to its first expedition, 330.68 Kg of plastic and nearly 10,000 micro-plastics have been removed from the coast of Menorca during the 5 days of 0Plastic Menorca Expedition, ceasing to be a risk for marine fauna and the ecosystem of the Mediterranean Sea.
